06:02 pm - I Forgot What it Was Like to Work in a Small Company.... I just started at CollabNet today - and for sure, the best thing (besides free drinks in the fridge, and lunch brought in on Thursdays) is the awesome IT environment here. I brought in my new Macbook Pro, and the IT guy was actually a dual Windoze and Mac person, and once he realized I wasn't going to be one of those lusers he needed to handhold, he went out of his way to make things easy for me, and even procured one of the last LCD panels they had that did DVI natively. But, the absolute best thing ever is that they run a transparent firewall/proxy. It is there, but you don't need to jump through hoops to connect to any website, IM system, etc. OMG, I think I'm in IT heaven. :)
Oh yeah, the work looks interesting too, lest anyone think I forgot about that.. :)

04:34 pm - I Made The Local News - Too Bad It Was a 'Nostril Shot' So, some may know that of the couple of volunteer things I do, working as a Volunteer in Prevention (VIP) for Cal Fire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention - ugh, no wonder we shortened the name) is one of my favorites.
During the recent Summit Fire in CA in the Santa Cruz Mtns, I was in the Emergency Command Center, answering the 'info/media line', when KTVU (our local FOX affiliate) decided to camp out in the ECC with us (that was soon remedied, and they were forced out front). During that time, we were super busy, and didn't really pay all that much attention to the camera crew, though I did catch a glimpse of the camera person as she shot what I've now affectionately nicknamed 'The Nostril Shot' (I'm about 2 mins into the video).
Other than that, the piece is pretty well done, giving an idea of what happens in the command center and at the incident command post during a big fire.
